WIlliam Jamison , Hero or Stooge?
A hero or heroine is a person that in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, displays courage, bravery or self-sacrifice—that is, heroism—for some greater good, a definition from the source of Wikipedia. A stooge is a person who serves merely to support or assist others, particularly in doing unpleasant work. Two very diverse words that have totally different meaning. John Proctor is not the purest of the pure nor the worst of the worst. His decisions to not go to church making excuses because he does not like a certain person, not to baptize his child, and commiting adultery with the whore of the town Abigail, shows that he is definitely not perfect.
In my opinion I do believe that he falls more along the hero side of things because of his brave acts he had done. Telling truth about his affair with Abigail and committing adultery. His choices at the beginning choosing not be faithful and create this whole mess pushes him towards being a stooge, but the deeper and deeper you go into the play you can tell that his goal is to bring Abigail and these girls to justice. Do to their outrageous blame game of vengeance that is corrupting the town. Though he did not succeed , ending up walking to his death . Then going back towards being a stooge by saying he is a liar and works with the devil basically asking to be hanged when he has children that need a father figure making his decision selfish. Not signing his confession told the reader he wanted death. Through out the play John makes good and bad decisions keeping him between a stooge and a hero . I dont truly agree with his decision to die but it shows how he feels about whats going on in the town and all the talk around him.

There
Goes the Neighborhood"
William
Jamison
Just got back from basketball practice drained week
Four of college done and I don’t even have a roommate yet. Big and beautiful
dorm all to myself. Finally getting to my dorm and hitting the hay , I think I'm
going to sleep majority of the day tomorrow.
I sadly wake up to my door being beaten on at seven in the morning , all
I'm thinking about is who is doing this to me. I ask who is at the front door
and boy replies your new roommate. I open up the door and see a guy with tan
pants, a soccer jersey and some all black indoor cleats. He introduces himself to me his
name is Carlos and his nationality is Mexican. Don’t get me wrong I was nice
and interested in whatever he had to say but I was angry about having to be
forced to only have one half of the dorm room. I showed him the basics of where
the important things are like bathrooms and lunch area where you go and get
food. But before any of that had occurred I went back to sleep, yet again
waking up to a loud banging noise. In
the dorm Carlos had taken all of my basketball posters down and replaced them
with his own of his favorite soccer players, My movies had been rearranged alphabetically
and it was in type of genre article. To top it off he puts muddy cleats on my
rug and is on the phone speaking Spanish extremely loudly. Seeing and hearing
the horrific seen I had to have a talk with him about personal space and
respecting each other's half of the dorm room. Now he is sure of what he can
touch which is only his things and keeping his stuff on his side. Settling an
agreement with him was not to bad but he still is on his phone late at night
when I'm trying to sleep. From that week 5 we were both settled and used to each
other. College life was back to being the usual and even though I do miss that
space it was worth it and I am glad I got the experience of sharing my dorm.
