What Margaret does at the end of the short story ,
The short happy life of Francis Macomber, she ends up shooting and killing her
husband Francis. Clearly she had done this on purpose not on accident trying to
shoot a buffalo as said on page twenty eight. Early in the short story it
speaks of how Margaret is all about her ranking in power and is known to be an
addict towards successful man that help her " Yelp rating" meaning
reputation. Margaret sees her husband as a coward throughout the beginning and
middle of the selection knowing of his fear to kill a lion. An example of her
focus on her yelp rating was giving Wilson a kiss and later after ending up
having a one night stand with him do to his bold and brave reputation as a hunter. Not caring of how Francis felt
because she knew that he was just to cowardly to leave her. She ends up
shooting becoming frightened of the thought of being left alone. Once she sees
Francis leave his cowardly stage when hunting down the bulls and shooting them
down with Wilson. She realizes that her husband is no longer a coward and is a
Men and that Francis will be able to leave her if he wants to so automatically
thinking of that basically puts her in shock not thinking clearly basically making
sure that she doesn’t get left by killing him.
